What is Hooghmoed in the Efteling?
Hooghmoed is a new free-fall attraction at Efteling, located next to Baron 1898. In terms of story, the attraction aligns perfectly with the park's famous dive coaster.
Next to the Baron 1898 gold mine stands a smelter, where the gold from the mine is melted down. The chimney of this smelter needs to be swept regularly, and for this, Baron Gustav Hooghmoed is looking for brave chimney sweeps. And yes, that means you get to go up high!
Where does the name Hooghmoed come from?
The name Hooghmoed refers to Baron Gustav Hooghmoed , the main character from the story of Baron 1898. In 2015, after many voyages of discovery, he opened his gold mine in the Efteling, determined to extract all the gold from the ground.
But of course, things didn't go entirely as planned. He soon had to deal with the White Witches, who protect the gold. The new attraction Hooghmoed ties into this story and therefore fits well with the mysterious, industrial atmosphere of the area surrounding Baron 1898.
How high does Pride go?
During a ride in Hooghmoed, you reach a height of 9,5 meters . From there, you have a beautiful view of the surrounding area. Think of the Gondoletta Pond, Baron 1898, and even the Piraña.
So it is not a gigantic free fall like some thrill rides, but rather an accessible attraction where children can experience height in an exciting way.
Who is Hooghmoed suitable for?
Hooghmoed was specially built for children who are still too small for Baron 1898. While you must be at least 1,32 meters tall for Baron 1898, children from 90 centimeters are allowed to ride Hooghmoed.
That makes the attraction a nice intermediate step for young visitors who are up for a bit of excitement, but aren't yet allowed on the Baron's big free fall.

With Hooghmoed, Efteling gains an accessible attraction that fits perfectly within the story of Baron 1898. The attraction is thrilling, but not too intense, and gives young visitors the chance to get a taste of the sensation of a free fall.
