Welcome to Het Huyverwoud! Well, it won't exactly be a warm welcome. In this newest themed area you'll find yourself in the creepiest corner of the entire Efteling! This exact spot used to be home to the Spookslot, along with Het Seyland Fregat and a toilet block. It was nostalgic, that's for sure. But take our word for it... the spirit of old wanders through the new Huyverwoud like never before!
Danse Macabre
You can't miss it when you enter Het Huyverwoud – in fact, it's the reason you're there! Danse Macabre, the replacement for the old Spookslot. In this dilapidated chapel, the Unnameable reigns supreme, and you'll have to surrender to the dance of the dead to stay out of the gruesome clutches of whatever is going on inside.
This worthy successor to the Spookslot is definitely not for the faint-hearted! You'll take your seat in a choir pew set on a gigantic turntable. This platform can in turn rotate, tilt and even make a 3-metre free fall, sending you down into the catacombs. And all of this to the iconic strains of Danse Macabre, from which the attraction also takes its name. Who comes up with these things, eh?

If you're familiar with the backstory of Danse Macabre, Virginie en Otto Charlatan will no doubt ring a bell. Not met them yet? Don't worry, their story is well worth discovering!
Every day, both characters perform a street theatre act near the attraction. Together with the barrel organ Esmeralda, it promises to be a musical but also thrilling act. You're bound to become curious about everything that goes on inside the abbey. And who exactly is Joseph Charlatan? And that Unnameable…
Food & Drink
Just like in the old area, you'll once again find food and drink in Het Huyverwoud. One of these spots has been open for quite some time and goes by the name Taverne In den Swarte Kat, where you can grab a quick snack. Pick up a bottle of drink, pay for a snack at the self-checkout, and you'll be on your way again in no time! The area is also home to ’t Koetshuys, a food outlet where you can enjoy a tub of popcorn or the special Griezelspin. This is also where you'll find one of the four locations of D’n Dorstlesser.
