After almost 15 years: farewell to Raveleijn

After almost 15 years, the Raveleijn park show at Efteling has come to an end. Well, this version of it has, at least. The very last performance took place on Sunday 4 January 2026, and the farewell was anything but quiet.

The final day of performances

It had been known for quite some time that the current version of Raveleijn would be ending. Many fans had already been to see the show once or several more times after the announcement, but on 4 January everything felt different. This really was the last day.

That Sunday, Raveleijn was performed three more times. The tension built considerably, especially in the run-up to the final show. Fans gathered around the arena in huge numbers and the queue grew to an unprecedented length. It stretched from the entrance of Raveleijn all the way to the Anton Pieckplein, and at around four o'clock it even reached the entrance of Het Lavenlaar.

During the show

When the clock struck five and the final show began, the atmosphere was exuberant. Every stunt, every appearance by the riders and every fire effect was greeted with loud applause and cheering.

After the show, the entire cast came together one last time for a joint bow, followed by words of thanks from various people involved.

The story of Raveleijn

In Raveleijn, five children, Joost, Thomas, Maurits, Emma and Lisa, are summoned by Countess Halina to the magical city of Raveleijn.

There they become riders who must protect the city from the evil Count Olaf and his five-headed dragon Draconicon. For years, this story was brought to life with horses, stunts, fire and spectacular effects.

The beginnings of Raveleijn

The Raveleijn park show opened in 2011 as part of the themed area of the same name. Efteling developed the concept together with author Paul van Loon, resulting in an entirely original story and an impressive city with an arena.

In 2013, the show was revamped in both content and technology, becoming the version that was then performed for many years.

The future of the show

Efteling has announced that work is under way on a completely new show, which is expected to debut in December 2026.

What we do know is that the story will take a new turn. Samira, for instance, will play an important role in the new show.

She helps the riders, but not as a rider herself. Exactly what her role will look like isn't entirely clear yet. It has been confirmed, however, that a storyline will develop around a romance between Samira and the rider Thomas.

A different direction

Notably, the new show will be staged without animals. Instead, Efteling plans to go big with new effects and technical innovations, in collaboration with the French spectacle company Puy du Fou. With that, Raveleijn looks set to head in a very different direction once again.

Raveleijn is saying goodbye to a familiar format, but the story of this special place at Efteling is clearly far from over.
