Hoogmoed is open!
It's a festive day at Efteling, because Hooghmoed opened today! This new drop tower next to Baron 1898 takes visitors up to great heights. In this blog we tell you more about Efteling's newest attraction, and we take a ride above the Gondoletta lake.

What is Hooghmoed at Efteling?
Hooghmoed is a new drop tower attraction at Efteling, located next to Baron 1898. Story-wise, the attraction ties in perfectly with the park's famous dive coaster.
Next to the gold mine of Baron 1898 stands a smelter, where the gold from the mine is melted down. The smelter's chimney needs sweeping regularly, so Baron Gustav Hooghmoed is looking for brave chimney sweeps. And yes, that means you get to go up high!
Where does the name Hooghmoed come from?
The name Hooghmoed refers to Baron Gustav Hooghmoed, the main character in the Baron 1898 story. In 2015, after many voyages of discovery, he opened his gold mine at Efteling, determined to extract every last bit of gold from the ground.
But of course, things didn't quite go to plan. He soon ran into the Witte Wieven, who protect the gold. The new Hooghmoed attraction ties in with this story, so it fits nicely with the mysterious, industrial atmosphere of the area around Baron 1898.

How high does Hooghmoed go?
During a ride on Hooghmoed you reach a height of 9.5 metres. From up there you get a lovely view of the surrounding area, including the Gondoletta lake, Baron 1898 and even Piraña.
So it's not a gigantic drop like some thrill rides, but rather an accessible attraction that lets children experience heights in an exciting way.
Who is Hooghmoed suitable for?
Hooghmoed was built especially for children who are still too small for Baron 1898. Whereas you need to be at least 1.32 metres tall for Baron 1898, children from 90 centimetres can already ride Hooghmoed.
That makes the attraction a fun stepping stone for young visitors who fancy a bit of excitement but aren't yet allowed on the Baron's big drop.

New Efteling attraction for young daredevils
With Hooghmoed, Efteling gains an accessible attraction that fits perfectly into the Baron 1898 story. The attraction is exciting but not too intense, and gives young visitors the chance to get a first taste of what a free fall feels like.
