Dive Coaster
Baron 1898 is a Dive Coaster-type rollercoaster. That means you literally dive straight down! This attraction opened in 2015 and to this day is pretty much the most popular attraction at Efteling. The drop you make on Baron 1898 is 37.5 metres deep in total: 30 metres above ground and 7.5 metres below ground. You'll find Baron 1898 in the Ruigrijk area.
Practical information
To ride this attraction, you must be at least 1.32 metres tall. Brave enough to take on this adventure on your own? Then use the single rider queue. If you have any physical complaints, unfortunately you won't be able to ride Baron 1898. For guests with disabilities who can't enter the attraction independently, there's a special entrance at the back of the attraction. Next to Baron 1898 there's a wall of lockers where you can leave your personal belongings. You can also hand your bag to the staff in the queue, and you'll get your belongings back safe and sound after your ride. In bad weather or extreme cold, Baron 1898 is unfortunately closed. Enjoy your descent into the mine and watch out for the Witte Wieven!
The story
Step into the intriguing story of Gustave Hooghmoed, the greedy mine baron determined to extract as much gold from the mines as possible. As a brave miner (kompel), you get the chance to help Gustave in his quest for riches. But beware, the Witte Wieven are lying in wait to thwart his plans! Prepare for your underground adventure with two pre-shows in which you learn more about Gustave Hooghmoed. At the end of the queue you'll even meet him in the flesh! There's plenty to see in the queue, where you'll discover countless pieces of mining equipment. As you walk towards the station building, the queue splits into two separate lines. Want to ride in the front row? Then choose the first line, but do allow for some extra waiting time. Prefer to take the breathtaking plunge in another row? Then choose the second line.

Above-ground kompel
Don't dare, don't want to or can't ride Baron 1898? No worries! Ask Efteling staff about an above-ground Kompel ticket. This ticket gives you access to the Baron 1898 pre-shows. Once you reach the boarding station, you walk past the coaster train towards the attraction exit. If you have to wait a while for the members of your group who do have the courage to brave Baron 1898, you won't get bored. There's plenty to experience above ground at this beautifully themed attraction! Enjoy the view of the drop from above or treat yourself to a tasty portion of fresh churros at ’t Melkhuysje.
