Dressed practically for your day out
Efteling is constantly on the move. New attractions keep appearing, but that sometimes also means saying goodbye to much-loved classics. Today the fairy tale De Chinese Nachtegaal closes its doors for good to make way for the Sprookjesbibliotheek. It's the perfect moment to look back at five other vanished Efteling attractions that many visitors remember fondly.
1. Spookslot
In the summer of 2022, the doors of the Spookslot opened for the last time. For years the attraction was an iconic part of the park, but due to its outdated technology and the poor condition of the building, Efteling decided to close it.
The final show took place on 4 September 2022. During the special ‘Spooknacht’, fans could enjoy its mysterious atmosphere one last time. Since 2024, the site has been home to the new attraction Danse Macabre, a tribute to the Spookslot.
2. Bobbaan
Who doesn't remember the call “Dag mooie Bob”? In 2019, Efteling said goodbye to the Bobbaan, a much-loved bobsleigh ride that was plagued by technical problems. The very last ride was for staff, after which the track was demolished. In 2020 the spot was given a new lease of life with the arrival of Max & Moritz, a cheerful family rollercoaster.

3. Polka Marina
From 1984 to 2020, Polka Marina graced the Ruigrijkplein. This colourful roundabout with 23 little boats and a large whale in the middle was a favourite with young visitors for years.
After its closure, the famous whale got a special second life at Efteling's staff café.
4. Monsieur Cannibal
The cheerful music and spinning cooking pots of Monsieur Cannibal are a childhood memory for many. On this ride you could control the speed of your own cooking pot as you spun round to the jolly tune.
In 2022 the attraction was given a new theme: Sirocco, fitting in with the Reizenrijk themed area. The ride itself was kept, but with a completely new look.

5. Pegasus
Before Joris en de Draak opened its tracks in 2010, the wooden rollercoaster Pegasus stood on the same spot. This coaster, which opened in 1991, was especially popular with families.
When the attraction was demolished in 2009, fans could buy a piece of the wooden structure as a keepsake. So a little bit of Pegasus lives on in many fans' homes.
